Munson’s art picked for NODM Kids Marathon medal

Artwork by Port Angeles youngster Dawn Munson, a Dry Creek Elementary student, was selected to adorn the 2024 North Olympic Discovery Kids Marathon medals in June.

Munson’s piece was selected out of 63 submissions for the design contest, now in its eighth year.

She worked closely in designing the medal and ribbon throughout the entire medal creation process, race organizers said.

Runner-up awards for their submissions went to Port Angeles youths Veronica Schaefermeyer, 12, of Franklin Elementary, Jennacee Abel, 9, of Dry Creek Elementary, Presley Graham, 8, of Dry Creek Elementary, and Sol Murdach, 7, of Jefferson Elementary.

In recognition of their achievement, all winners are awarded complimentary entry into the Kids Marathon, a special certificate and a goody bag.

The 21st Annual Kids Marathon is set to take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the Port Angeles City Pier, as part of a weekend of racing festivities that include the North Olympic Discovery Marathon, Hal Marathon, Relay, 10k and 5k.
