Youths interested in playing football have even more options as football coach Erik Wiker announced last week the formation of Sequim Wolf Pack youth football.

The new organization offers adult-supervised tackle football for Sequim youths ages 6-12.

The Wolf Pack was created to give Sequim youths the opportunity to play tackle football in the also newly formed North Olympic Youth Football League. The Sequim Wolf Pack was invited to field the Sequim teams in the new league that includes teams from Chimacum, Forks, Neah Bay, Port Angeles and Port Townsend.

Sequim Wolf Pack’s founding board of directors includes Wiker, Dick Hughes, Phil Langston, Cheri Lott, David McHugh, Kathy Schock and Ken Warren.

The board is trying to keep fees at approximately $150 per player for the 2010-2011 season, according to a club press release.

McHugh, the club’s treasurer, estimates that though coaches, officers and directors are volunteers, Sequim Wolf Pack backers need to raise more than $40,000 for uniforms, insurance and expenses this inaugural year.

"We really need the community to come behind this for the kids," said Warren, Sequim Wolf Pack board president. "After all, that is what this is all about."

The Sequim Wolf Pack will include teams for youth ages 6-8 as a "prep" team, ages 9-10 as a "junior varsity" team and 11-12 as a "varsity" team.

Wiker, head coach of

Sequim High School’s varsity football team, is slated to manage the coaching staff of all three teams.
