The Olympic Avalanche all-star girls basketball squad went 4-0 in a round robin format tournament and defended their Holiday Hoops Tournament crown last weekend in Port Angeles.
The Avalanche opened with a 70-41 win against the South Kitsap Jazz. Krista Johnson of Neah Bay led the Avalanche with 23 points, followed by Sequim’s Alexa Besand’s 15 points.
In game two, Johnson scored 20 points and Celestina Ramirez added nine points as Olympic cruised to a 63-37 win against the Suqamish Wolfpack.
In game three – in what turned out to be the championship contest – Olympic toppled the Port Angeles Ice 53-34. Johnson scored 18 points while Cierra Moss added nine points and Besand had eight.
The Avalanche kept rolling in game four, topping the Gig Harbor Blue Ox squad 68-26. Johnson once again led all Olympic scorers with 22 points while Katia Brown had 16 points. Ramirez and Merissa Murner chipped in with nine points each.
