Orcas Softball Wins Gold

Not even a little rain could stop these softballers from taking the gold. The Clallam County Orcas, a squad of players from across the peninsula vying for medals in the Washington State Special Olympics, first won gold at the regional level and then qualified for the state championship game on Aug. 22. Rain washed out the game, leaving officials to determine the gold medalists based upon tiebreakers such as scores and team-versus-team outcomes, with the Orcas coming out on top. Above, the team celebrates their strong finish to the season. The Orcas are (back row, from left) Evan Angenendt, David Staus, Nina Wilson, Stacey Carver, coaches Tristan Isett, Fred Petty and Steve Kellmyer with Kevin Isett; (middle row, from left) Michael Rudolph, head coach Jan Isett, Garet Bonham, Violet Snodgrass, Patrick McFarland, Mary Meech, Harvey Reise and Stacey Shipley, with; (front row, from left) Erica Miller, Thomas Skerbeck, Aidan Petty, Deni Isett, Hannah Geiger and Andrea Reise.     Submitted photo
