Registration open for fall endurance racing

Registration is filling up for fall endurance racing with Peninsula Adventure Sports, but there are still some spots to be had.

Here are racing events scheduled for September and October:

GOAT Run

The Great Olympic Adventure Trail Run, set for Sept. 6, is a point-to-point 50K, marathon, and half marathon trail running event on the Olympic Adventure Trail, ending at Log Cabin Resort on Lake Crescent, and is in partnership with title sponsor North Olympic Healthcare Network.

Wave 1 of the Half Marathon is sold out, but there are still 30 spots left for Wave 2. There are still 20 spots left in the 50K and plenty left in the marathon.

Big Hurt

This multi-sport race, which will take place Sept. 27, includes mountain biking, kayaking, road biking and running and can be done solo in Iron Division or as a 2-4 person relay team.

The event is brought in partnership with title sponsor Sound Bikes and Kayaks.

Spots are limited, but there are around 30 spots left for Iron Division and 30 for teams, and they are going fast. Racers who sign up for Big Hurt by Aug. 20 will be entered into a drawing for a free ticket (4 available) to the Banff Mountain Film Festival at Field Arts & Events Hall on Big Hurt weekend.

Also, racers should know that they need to sign up by Sept. 1 to be guaranteed a T-shirt in their size (or one at all depending on the number of late sign-ups).

Little Hurt

This multi-sport race for kids will take place Sept. 28. Youth in 1st-8th grades bike, run, and row on rowing machines.

The littles in Kindergarten and pre-K bike and run, accompanied on foot by an adult parent or guardian.

The event takes place in partnership with Peninsula College on its back campus and trails, and is brought in partnership with title sponsor Bike Garage.

Cost is $15 for 1st-8th grade and includes a T-shirt and finisher medal. Pre-K and Kindergarten is $5 and includes a finisher medal. Scholarships are available. If you have financial need, reach out to Lorrie Mittmann at lorrie@peninsulaadventuresports.com.

Salt Creek 24

Held Oct. 25-26 in partnership with Rain Bear Running Club and title sponsor Welly’s Real Fruit Ice Cream, Salt Creek 24 is a 24-hour run/walk event at the stunning Salt Creek Recreation Area.

Folks can participate solo or as a relay team, and can optionally participate as a fundraiser for their charity of choice. Contact co-organizer Carmen Geyer at rainbearrunning@gmail.com to find out how you can fundraise for your chosen charity at Salt Creek 24.

There is also a Last Runner Standing event for the most intrepid athletes. It involves running to the summit of Striped Peak every hour on the hour until all but one runner drops out.
