Registration opens for Sequim Little League

Registration and tryouts begin this week for the 2013 Sequim Little League season.

The league hosts two registration dates: from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17, at James Standard Park fields, 136 W. Silberhorn Road.

Those registering are asked to bring a registration form — available on the website (www.sequimlittleleague.com) but also available at the registration table — along with a birth certificate and fee, if applicable.

Fees are $50 for tee ball, $75 for other divisions, free for Challenger Division players (see league description below). A family cap is set for $150.

The league now accepts credit card payments.

League ages determined by these dates: girls, age on Jan. 1, 2013; boys, age on May 1, 2013.

Players who register for Boys Majors (ages 9-12) must take part in a tryout during one of the registration dates.

Seniors and majors begin practice March 4, minors on March 18, prep teams on March 25 and T-ball teams on April 8.

Opening day is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13.

Volunteers must fill out volunteer registration; they must pass background check and provide references.

Baseball’s Challenger League starting up

The Challenger Baseball League, a division of Sequim Little League for youths with special needs, is registering players for the upcoming season.

Registration coincides with other Little League divisions: noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17.

Players hit from a tee or with a live pitcher and are aided in batting, fielding and running by youth volunteers.
