Players with Sequim’s Senior Softball Grey Wolves co-ed recreational league say America’s favorite pastime is still possible as you age.
“We have people who have played all their lives or newcomers who haven’t picked up a bat in many years,” said League President David Unruh.
Whether you’re recently retired or still working part-time, organizers encourage locals to dust off old gloves or buy a new one and join as registration is under way.
Warm-ups start at 8:30 a.m. and games begin at 9:15 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday in Carrie Blake Community Park, 202 North Blake Ave., in Sequim.
A few players go south for the winter, organizers said, but most turn out year-round, weather permitting.
Rules are to “have fun” and “play safe” with modified gameplay rules that emphasize limited contact to help lower risk of injuries.
Grey Wolves require men to be at least 55 and women 45, with some players in their 80s consistently playing and all skillsets on the field.
Prospective players are encouraged to watch and decide whether or not to play.
