Dominating in most of their games, the Sequim-East Jefferson County softball all-stars went 4-1 last week to win the Washington State Little League Junior Division state championship in Monroe.
The squad opened the tourney with a 10-2 over Stilly Valley (District 1), then knocked off Camas (District 4) 12-4 on June 27 and North East (District 8) 14-5 on June 28. North East rebounded with a 13-9 win on June 30, but Sequim-East Jefferson came back with a 5-1 win later that day to secure the title.
The team now represents Washington at a Little League regional tournament in Tucson, Ariz., starting July 20.
The team is hosting two major fundraisers this week to help with travel and tourney fees: a car wash in front of Domino’s Pizza (755 W. Washington St.) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, and a golf tourney at Sunland Golf &Country Club starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 9.
