Sequim opens league slate with Ws

For a team seeking its first overall league championship since 2004, the Wolves are off to a fine start.

Sequim swept by Bremerton and North Mason last week in the start of Olympic League action, joining North Kitsap’s Vikings (2-0) and Port Angeles (1-0) as the perfect teams in the league.

After a close first set, Sequim blew by Bremerton 25-18, 25-11 and 25-9 on Sept. 28.

The Wolves then knocked off North Mason, the perennial league title-challenger, in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-16) in Belfair on Sept. 30.

Haleigh Harrison led the team with 14 kills while Maddy Zbaraschuk had six and Jessica Lauritzen had five.

Taylor Balkan was a perfect 17-of-17 on serves and added 21 assists.

Zbaraschuk had eight aces in the win.

Hannah Hudson and Rylleigh Zbaraschuk chipped in with nine digs each to lead the defense.

The Wolves host Kingston on Oct. 7 and play at the Capital City Tournament in Olympic on Oct. 9.

Sequim plays at co-division leader North Kitsap on Oct. 12 and host Port Townsend on Oct. 14.
