The scores couldn’t quite prolong their season, but Sequim’s Wolves ended the 2011-12 campaign saving the best for last.

Sequim bowlers tallied their best team score and three athletes set personal best single-game marks at the West Central District tournament at Pacific Lanes in Tacoma on Jan. 28.

“None made it to state but they all bowled great,” Sequim coach Randy Perry said.

Megan McAndie bowled a three-game series of 404 pins to lead Sequim, setting a season high of 156 in her second game.

Danyelle Wilson bowled a 387 series and had a 155-pin first game while Mikayla Ahlin knocked down a team-high 173 pins in her first game and finished with a 372-pin series.

Sequim tallied a 642-pin first game, a season high.

It wasn’t enough to advance any bowlers to state, however, as Sequim ran up against tough competition from the region. With 3,390 total pins, Wilson took the district title, Bremerton was second (185 pins back), Timberline was third and missing a state berth by 58 pins was Klahowya in fourth place.

The district also takes the top 10 individuals to state.

The Wolves extended their season at the league tourney — and they advanced together.

All five SHS competitors earned district tourney berths after posting qualifying scores at the Olympic League tourney on Jan. 23.

Ahlin bowled a three-game series of 368 to lead Sequim, followed by McAndie (343), Wilson (338), Kelsey VanDyken (332) and Christin Egert (311).

“They were all 10, 20 pins above their season average,” Perry said.

Perry said he has high hopes for the Wolves next season.

“[Next year] I’ll have my top five coming back,” Perry said, noting that just one of his varsity starters this season — Egert, an exchange student — was a senior.

“And they’re all really young: four sophomores and a freshman,” Perry said.
