Sequim tops Burlington-Edison, 34-32

Sequim's squad recorded the school's first-ever win in any state football tournament, edging Burlington-Edison 34-32 at Viking Stadium in Poulsbo Saturday night.

Sequim’s squad recorded the school’s first-ever win in any state football tournament, edging Burlington-Edison 34-32 at Viking Stadium in Poulsbo Saturday night.

Travis Decker scored three touchdowns and Drew Rickerson threw two long touchdown passes for the Wolves (10-1), who had to stop Burlington-Edison from tying the game with no time left on the clock.

Sequim held a 34-12 lead with 10:45 left in the game, but gave up three unanswered touchdowns to the Tigers (8-3).

The last came on a fourth-and-10 play with 7.3 seconds left, when Tigers quarterback Dylan Boe found reciever Achilles Wynn in the end zone, closing the gap to 34-32.

Going for two to tie and send the game into overtime, the Tigers’ Mikey Sanchez tried to burst through the middle of the line, but Sequim’s Thomas Gallagher and the defensive line stuffed the play.

Decker finished with 146 yards on 25 carries while Rickerson was 19-of-24 passing for 214 yards.Textor led the team with five catches for 132 yards. He scored from 61 yards in the second quarter and from 44 yards in the third quarter.

Sequim will play Lynden Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. at Silverdale Stadium.
