All eight Sequim Equestrian Team competitors earned at least one top-10 finish at the team’s first event of the season, a District 4 meet at the Tacoma unit Jan. 22-25.

Kaytee Gibeau took top honors in Saddle Seat Equitation and third in Working Rancher while teammate Lydia Marrs was second in Saddle Seat Equitation and Kelly Anders took third in Reining. Sequim’s Freestyle Fours — Gibeau, Sydney Balkan, Heidi Schleiger and Haylie Newton — teamed up to take third overall.

“They are a great group of athletes with a promising season ahead of us,” Sequim coach Katie Newton said.
