Hoops tourney set for Dec. 13-14, P.A. gets hoops coach, Turkey Trot is on, ‘North Pole’ volleyball tourney slated

Hoops tourney set for Dec. 13-14

The Port Angeles Parks & Recreation Department is hosting the Holiday Hoops Tourney on Dec. 13-14, with divisions for boys and girls basketball teams in grades 5-8.

Entry fee is $250 per team. Each team is guaranteed four games.

P.A. gets hoops coach

The Peninsula Daily News reports Kasey Ulin, former hoops standout for Forks High School, is Port Angeles’ new boys varsity basketball coach for 2014-2015.

The Port Angeles School Board officially approved his hire on Nov. 13.

Ulin scored 1,587 points for Forks High and holds the record for the highest Class 2A state tournament career scoring average at 26.3 points per game, the PDN reported.

Ulin takes over a team that went 12-11 last season and made the district playoffs last year under Brent Stephens.


Turkey Trot is on

Sequim Gym hosts its annual Turkey Trot 5K and 10K, starting near the Morse Creek trestle bridge in Port Angeles.

The race is set for 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving (Nov. 27). Bib pickups begin at 8 a.m.

Online registration for both 5K and 10K races ends at 8 p.m. tonight, Nov. 26; cost for $22.50 for either race. Registration is $25 for day-of-race signups. The event is a fundraiser for local food banks.

‘North Pole’ volleyball tourney slated

The North Pole Reverse 4s volleyball tournament is set for Sunday, Dec. 7, at Port Angeles High School.

Entry fee is $80 per team. Winners of each division (A/AA and B/BB) win T-shirts. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and play begins at 8:30 a.m. All teams need to be present at captain’s meeting (8:10 a.m.) regardless of schedule. After pool play, teams may be dropped down or pushed up in divisions for bracket play.

In four-person reverse coed format, teams may use any gender combination. Matches use a women’s height net. Men must attack the ball behind the 10-foot line and may not block women’s attacks but can block men’s attacks.
