Sequim riders battle in B.C.
Cash Coleman, 8, and Taylor Coleman, 11, both of Sequim, both raced at the USABMX Fraser Valley National in Chilliwack, B.C., this past weekend. Cash finished first in the 8 Intermediate class on May 8 and third in class both May 9 and May 10. He also finished third in the 7-8 Mixed Open class on both Saturday and Sunday. Taylor finished third in the 11 Girls class May 8 and seventh in that class on May 10. Both riders ride for Sonic BMX and race locally at the Port Angeles BMX track.
OBJR tryouts set
The Olympic Junior Babe Ruth hosts tryouts for its 14-year-old tournament team. The team is open to any league 14-year -old who has played this season with Olympic Junior Babe Ruth. Tryouts are at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 17, at Volunteer Field in Port Angeles.
Sather sinks ace
Ron Sather of Port Angeles sank his fourth hole-in-one, achieving the feat on April 25 at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course. He used an 8-iron to drive the 146-yard hole No. 8. Gary Kettel of Sequim and George Fessler and Mike Russell of Seattle witnessed the ace.
Sea Hawkers gather
The May meeting for the Olympic Peninsula Sea Hawkers, the area’s own Seattle Seahawks fan club, is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Traylor’s Restaurant, 3256 E. U.S. Highway 101, Port Angeles. The meeting is open to all Seahawks fans from the Olympic Peninsula. The June meeting will be held at Fanaticus, 1026 E. First St., Port Angeles. Call 457-1392.
Kids Fishing Day on tap
The 13th annual Kids Fishing Day from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Water Reclamation pond north of Carrie Blake Park. The event is open to youths 14 and younger. Bring your own pole and bait or borrow a rod from the club stock. The pond will be stocked with another 1,000 fish the following weeks so children may continue to fish through the summer.
