Downs sinks first ace

Walter Downs of Sequim scored his first hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course Aug. 16.

Downs used an 8-iron to drive the 130-yard hole No. 8 at The Cedars.

Vern Baur, Mike O’Brien and Wayne Pinger, all from Sequim, witnessed the feat.

McPherson gets ace No. 5

Steven McPherson of Sequim got his fifth lifetime hole-in-one, acing the 11th hole at The Cedars at Dungeness on Aug. 18.

McPherson used a 7-iron to drive the 138-yard hole.

WSU golf tourney set

The WSU North Olympic Cougar Golf Tournament is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, Aug. 29, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.

Play format is a four-person scramble.

Cost is $50 per person that includes a barbecue lunch at noon before play, range balls, prizes and closest-to-pin prizes.

Players need not have any affiliation with Washington State University to participate.

Free pocket-sized schedules for the 2010 Seattle Seahawks season are available at the Sequim Gazette office, 147 W. Washington St., while supplies last.

Gymnast group accepting registrations

Klahhane Gymnastics is accepting registration for fall gymnastics classes.

Classes begin Sept. 7.

Instruction is available weekdays and Saturdays for girls and boys ages 2 through high school at all skill levels, from preschool and recreational classes through USA Gymnastics Level 7 competitive teams.

The fall schedule, class descriptions, office hours and registration forms are available at www.paathletics.com.

Class sizes are limited and early registration is suggested for best choice of class times.

Klahhane Gymnastics also offers birthday parties and field trips.

Bike adventure set for Sept. 26

The annual Olympic Bike Adventure, a fundraiser for several local civic groups, is slated for Sunday, Sept. 26.

The event includes metric century (100 kilometers), 25-mile and 10-mile family-friendly rides.

Cost is $50 per adult or $25 for youths 12 years old or younger. Cost includes a ride T-shirt, lunch and ride shuttles.

Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club Foundation of the Olympic Peninsula, Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club and Port Angeles Recreation Department.
