Join walk to Hurricane Hill

The Olympic Peninsula Explorers invite community members to join them in The Hurricane Hill club walk, slated for Saturday, Aug. 13.

Walkers meet at 9 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St. in Port Angeles, then drive to Hurricane Ridge to begin the walk.

The route follows a well-maintained trail to Hurricane Hill. Elevation gain to the top is 650 feet in five kilometers. Restrooms are at the start of the walk. No pets are allowed and the trail is inadequate for wheelchair use. Strollers are OK.

Jenkins, Lichten named all-stars

Sequim High School seniors Alex Jenkins and Audrey Lichten were named state senior all-stars for 2011 by the Washington State Cross Country Coaches Association.

The all-star team is made up of the top graduating male and female runners from all five high school classifications.

Jenkins and Lichten were the lone Wolves at the class 2A state cross country meet last November. Lichten qualified for the state meet all four years at SHS while Jenkins qualified his final three years.

Soccer registration open in Port Angeles

Port Angeles Soccer’s fall season registration is open until Aug. 15.

The season is open for ages 4½ years and older. Cost is $55 for all age brackets. Full uniforms will be issued this year for ages U-10 and older.

Junior soccer camps slated for mid-August

The U.K. Elite club hosts three simultaneous soccer camps for Sequim-area youths on Aug. 15-19 at Agnew Fields.

All fees pay for camp, T-shirt and ball.

A camp for youth ages 8-14 is slated for 9 a.m.-noon. Cost is $140.

The camp for children ages 5-8 is also scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon. Cost is $140.

A camp for ages 3-5 is set for 1-2:15 p.m. Cost is $95.
