Locals fare well at Pro-Am
Bill Shea took top honors in the low net pro division, leading a group of solid finishes for local golfers at The Cedars at Dungeness’ Pro-Am tourney on March 11.
Shea shot a 63. Tying for third place in the same division was Kelly O’Meara after shooting a net 68.
In the Amateur low gross division, Mark Jeffries of Peninsula Golf Club (Port Angeles) was third with a 72.
In the Pro-Am gross amateur division, Bill Berry from The Cedars at Dungeness came in at fourth place with a score 65. In a tie for fifth place, also from The Cedars at Dungeness, was Pat Covey with a 66.
In the best ball portion of the tourney, The Cedars at Dungeness team of Berry, Covey, Jeff Lindsay and Walt Stetter came in third place, shooting a 121. In a tie for fourth place from SunLand Golf & Country Club was the team of Tyler Sweet, Fred Smith, Mike Phelan and Steve Snover. That team shot a 123.
Local closest-to-pin contest winners included Ken Chace from The Cedars at Dungeness and Phelan of SunLand.
Port Angeles hosts April Fools’ hoops tourney
The April Fools’ Extravaganza basketball tournament in Port Angeles is slated for March 27-28, with divisions for boys and girls basketball teams in grades 5-12.
Cost is $235 per team.
The event features a four-game guarantee.
The Port Angeles Recreation Department sponsors the event.

Klahhane gymnasts compete in Seattle
The Port Angeles-based Klahhane Gymnast crew competed in the George Lewis Aloha Invitational at Seattle Pacific University on March 6-7, with more than 250 athletes competing in levels 4-10.
In the compulsory levels competition, Danica Miller came away with the highest score for the team, scoring 35.45 all-around points, good for eighth place in the 10-year-olds field in Level 4 competition. Also in Level 4 action, in the 9-year-old age group, Haylee Ward was 12th, scoring 33.15 points. Christine Beirne was 13th with 33.10 points.
In Level 5 competition, Lillian Oden came away with 13th place in the 11-year-old age group, scoring 32.80 points.
The Level 4-6 gymnasts were slated to compete in their final regular season meet at the Northshore Invitational in Woodinville on March 14 (results were unavailable at press time), followed by the North Sectional meet at Leading Edge Gymnastics in Everett on March 28.
In optional competition, Emily Giammalva finished seventh in Level 7, 15-and-older division, with 32.6 points. Clarissa Preston finished ninth in the 11-and-younger age group.
Level 7 gymnasts conclude their competitive season at the Level 7 state meet at Seattle Pacific University on March 20.
Hardball players seek teammates
Nick Mobley and fellow baseball players are seeking interest in re-forming an adult league for this summer.
Formerly playing under the Olympic Peninsula Baseball Association banner, these ballplayers are hoping to form at least four teams and play games in
Sequim or at Port Angeles’ Volunteer Field. Games are for players 18 or older.

Ridge hosts ‘Citizens’ races
The Brad Stenger Memorial Citizens Race is slated for March 20-21 at Hurricane Ridge.
The skiing and snowboarding events start at 11 a.m. each day. Race fees are $15 per day or $25 for both days.
Races are open to the public and are intended to promote education, ski awareness and fun of alpine skiing, race organizers said.
All participating racers receive a commemorative T-shirt and barbecue meal. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded for winners in each age category; a trophy for fastest boy and fastest girl are awarded each day.
Coed ‘Clover’ volleyball tourney set for March 20
The 4-Leaf Clover Volleyball Tournament, a 4-on-4 coed tourney, is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, at Port Angeles High School, 304 E. Park Ave.
Entry fee is $80 per team.
A maximum of 16 teams are allowed. Prizes include T-shirts for first- and second-place teams. Winning teams from divisions with at least eight teams total receive a cash prize.
