P.A. BMX starts up spring Tuesday series
The Port Angeles BMX track started its Tuesday 10 spring racing series on May 25.
Sign-ups are from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with racing following. Each racer vies for age group prizes in the 15-race series, with extra points given for races with more than 10 competitors.
The BMX track is home to several big races during the spring and summer, including the "Big Weekend" that starts July 9 (sign-ups 5:30-6:30 p.m.) and continues with the Race for Life on July 10 (sign-ups noon-1 p.m.) and state championship race on July 11 (sign-ups 9-11 a.m.).
P.A. BMX hosts racing on Sundays from noon-1 p.m.

Local BMX riders tear it up in Walla Walla
The Port Angeles BMX track was closed May 16 to support a Redline Cup and a state championship qualifier in Walla Walla.
Travis Beutler rode well in both Saturday’s triple point Redline and Sunday’s state qualifier, bringing home two first-place trophies riding in the boys’ age 19 cruiser class division.
Kortney Beutler also brought home a first-place finish in the girls’ age 16 class on Saturday and took third place on Sunday.
Mariah Fortman came home with a fourth-place trophy in the girls age 10 division on Saturday, while Taylor Tolliver brought home a second-place trophy riding in the girls age 6 division for Sunday’s state qualifier.
Geri Thompson, P.A. BMX’s track operator, raced in the women’s 41 and older division, placing second.
Discovery Trail helpers host work party in June
The Peninsula Trails Coalition is hosting its next Olympic Discovery Trail work party from 9:30-noon on Saturday, June 12.
Helpers are removing scotch broom along the trail near Whitefeather Way, east of
Sequim.
Those wishing to help are asked to park and meet near the trail kiosk on Whitefeather Way and to bring work gloves.

SkyRidge hosts ESPN challenge
The ESPN National Golf Challenge local qualifying tournament is coming to SkyRidge Golf Course (7015 Old Olympic Highway) on June 6.
The tourney is two-person better ball format with maximum handicap of 24; teams can be any gender mix.
Cost is $65 per player and includes 12 HX Tour Callaway golf balls and a year’s subscription to Golf Magazine.
The tourney is the first stage in players’ quest to advance to the national finals, to be held in Las Vegas in November.
Local qualifiers are invited to play at Avalon Golf Course near Bellingham on Aug. 23 with a chance to make it the national event in Las Vegas.
At least two teams from the SkyRidge event are guaranteed spots at regionals.

Golf for Grads tourney set for May 29
The annual Golf For Graduates Tournament is scheduled for May 29 at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.
The event starts with a 9 a.m. shotgun start; check-in is at 8 a.m.
The tourney is an 18-hole, four-person scramble with a twist: Event organizers auction off members of both boys and girls golf teams to play with teams’ foursomes.
Cost is $50 per person or $200 per team. The fee includes range balls, 18 holes of golf, lunch, awards and prizes for hole-in-one, long drive and closest-to-pin competitions.
The event is limited to 18 teams.

SJS hosts soccer camps
The Sequim Junior Soccer club is hosting two camps this summer, both at the Sequim High School green fields.
From July 19-23, the UK International soccer camp comes to Sequim.
The UK Elite camp is scheduled for Aug. 16-20.

Cedars’ women’s club seeks players
The Women’s Club at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course is open to all female golfers to participate in weekly and special events at the course.
The group plays on Tuesday mornings with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. Weekly events run through October.
Special events include monthly medal competitions, match play in the President’s Cup tourney, a club championship in August and an invitational – The Days of Whine and Roses – in September.
The group also plays in tourneys in the region.
The club has a membership of about 31 players, says club spokesman Bonney Benson. Guests are welcome, she says.

Hardball players seek teammates
Nick Mobley and fellow baseball players are seeking interest in re-forming an adult league for this summer.
Formerly playing under the Olympic Peninsula Baseball Association banner, these ballplayers are hoping to form at least four teams and play games in Sequim or at Port Angeles’ Volunteer Field.
Games are for players 18 or older.
