SHS tennis goes 1-1 vs. Kitsap teams

Sequim High’s girls tennis squad lost a one-game match to North Kitsap on April 12 (4-3), then earned a 4-3 win over Kingston on April 14.

The Wolves are now 4-3 in league play and overall, fourth in the Olympic League, heading into this week’s action.

Sequim was scheduled to host North Mason on April 18 and Port Angeles on April 19. The Wolves then play five road matches to finish off the regular season: April 20 at Bremerton, April 25 at North Kitsap, April 26 at Port Angeles, May 1 at Chimacum and May 4 at Olympic.

Prins is speaker at anglers meeting

Herb Prins, a longtime club member, is the guest speaker at the Thursday, April 20, general meeting of Puget Sound Anglers-North Olympic Peninsula Chapter.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The public is welcome.

Prins’ topic is how to target halibut in the waters off Port Angeles. He will cover tackle, bait, tides, currents, anchoring and drifting.

The evening begins with a viewing of raffle prizes, followed by fish stories. A short club business meeting begins at 7 p.m. followed by Prins’ presentation. The meeting includes refreshments, a raffle for fishing gear and a $50 membership drawing (must be present to win).

Dryfhout gets sixth ace

Karl Dryfhout of Sequim sank his sixth lifetime hole-in-one at The Cedars at Dungeness on April 12. Dryfhout used a 6-iron to drive the 129-yard hole No. 11 at The Cedars. Arnie Fredrickson and Ferhan Kayihan, both of Sequim, witnessed the feat.
