Anglers to meet Aug. 16

The next meeting of Puget Sound Anglers-North Olympic Peninsula Chapter is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave. The featured guest speaker is club member Bruce Bryant, general manager of Platypus Marine in Port Angeles. Port Angeles’ Peninsula Golf Club will host its 40th annual Fall Shotgun Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1-2.

All players will get a shot at a KP on the full swing golf simulator.

A barbecue lunch will be served both days of play.

Cost is $260 per team.

The fun begins with a team auction (Calcutta) and hors d’oeuvres at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.

Drive for the Cure

Sunland Golf and Country Club is hosting its annual Drive for the Cure golf tournament and luncheon fundraiser for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation on Saturday, Sept, 15.

All funds raised outside of the golf and luncheon expenses will be given to the Olympic Medical Center Foundation to provide area women with mammograms when they do not have insurance or the means to pay for the procedure.

An anonymous Sunland donor will match funds raised at a rate of $1 for every $3 up to last year’s total of $4,650 and $1 for every $1 raised over that amount. Including the donor match, Sunland donated $6,800 in 2017.

The game is a modified scramble with a 9 a.m. shotgun start for 18 holes of play and an 11 a.m. start time for those wishing to play nine holes. Men and women may sign up as a team of four or sign up individually and the pro shop will make up teams. Mixed teams of men and women are welcome.

Cost is $65 for 18 holes or $50 for nine holes with lunch and a Mulligan/Magic Putt included. Cart rental is $16 per seat for 18 holes and $10 per seat for nine holes.

Non-golfers are encouraged to attend the luncheon, which starts at 1:30 p.m. for $20.

Additional fundraising avenues at the event will include a putting contest, raffles for gift baskets and additional donations.

Cash and check donations can be brought to the Sunland Pro Shop the day of the event.

Sign up to play by noon Monday, Sept. 10.
