Tourney at SkyRidge, junior soccer fall league opens registration and more.

‘Stars and Stripes’ tourney at SkyRidge

SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway, hosts the Stars and Stripes Golf Tournament, set for a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday, July 4. The two-person tourney features 27 holes of play and three formats (better ball, scramble, alternate shot). Only 28 teams will be allowed to register. Cost is $90 per team; includes golf, range balls and food. Honey pots are $20 extra per person. Call 683-3673.

Wagner sinks an ace

Chad Wagner, assistant golf pro at The Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim, found his home course to his liking on June 21, sinking his second lifetime hole-in-one. Wagner used a pitching wedge to drive the 137-yard hole No. 17. Craig Wagner, Garrett Payton and Mike Payton of Sequim and Rick Smith and Rick Smith Jr. of Port Angeles witnessed the feat.

Shea tapped as All-Peninsula golfer

Sequim High School junior Jack Shea was picked as the All-Peninsula Boys Golf MVP by area coaches and the Peninsula Daily News sports staff.

Shea earned the Olympic League MVP award after posting an average of 36.3 shots per nine holes and placed 10th at the class 2A state tournament in May.

Wolves teammate Travis Priest also was named to the All-Peninsula Boys Golf Team.

Junior soccer fall league opens registration

Registration is open for Sequim Junior Soccer’s 2015 fall leagues. The league is open to players of ages 3-14 (as of Aug. 1). Cost is $45 per player with a $115 family cap prior to July 26; after that, registration is $55 per player with a $125 family cap.

Sequim Junior Soccer also hosts a soccer camp for players of ages 5-8 and 8-14 at the Albert Haller Playfields Aug. 10-14. Cost is $130 with $10 for each additional player. Team and group discounts may be available. Camp includes T-shirt. A U.K. Petite Program for players of ages 2-6 is set for 10-11:45 a.m. those same days; cost is $100.

Sequim resident Kevin Carmichael is in search of a sponsor for a 11U girls fastpitch team. When he gets a sponsor lined up he’ll host a tryout session, Carmichael says.
