Anglers group to meet
The Puget Sound Anglers-North Olympic Peninsula chapter will meet on Wednesday, March 16, at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.
The meeting is open to the public and starts at 6:30 p.m. for for gathering and talking about fishing, with agenda items starting at 7 p.m.
Group hosts will be following county COVID regulations.
The speaker this month is club member and charter captain John Beath, who will be talking about halibut and how to catch them in the waters off the peninsula’s shores. His presentation is titled, “Halibut fishing in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.”
Former SHS coach takes 2A title
Brian Roper, former head coach in Sequim, led Lynden to the boys’ 2A basketball title, his fifth state championship with the Lions (2006-2007, 2011-2012, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019), on March 5.
Lynden topped Pullman 51-34 in the championship game.
Roper led the Sequim Wolves for six seasons (1999-2005), with the team’s best finish an eighth place at the 2000-2001 state 3A tournament.
