Angler group to hear local lake fishing tips

Ward Norden, a retired fisheries biologist and tackle manufacturer, is the featured speaker at the next Puget Sound Anglers-North Olympic Peninsula Chapter meeting, starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Norden has extensive knowledge of fresh water fishing opportunities in the area, and he will cover the local lakes — particularly those in eastern Jefferson County — and the pertinent regulations.

The evening begins with fish stories viewing of raffle prizes. The featured speaker presentation starts at 7 p.m., followed by a business meeting which includes a financial report, government relations report, upcoming events discussions and fishing reports from members. Also on tap: refreshments, a raffle for fishing gear and the Membership drawing (must be present to win)

The club meets the third Thursday of each month. The public is welcome.

Wagner earns PGA honors

Chad Wagner, head golf pro at Peninsula Golf Club in Port Angeles, is officially a Class A PGA member after wrapping up the PGA Professional Golf Management Program last month.

“It took me three years to get through everything, which was a little longer than I wanted, but I’m glad to be done, that’s for sure,” Wagner said last week.

Wagner thanked both general manager Bill Shea and head pro Garrett Smithson at The Cedars at Dungeness for their help in completing the PGA program.

Wagner, a 2006 Sequim High School graduate and former baseball star for the Wolves and Wilder Baseball Club who played collegiality for Lower Columbia and Hawaii Pacific University, worked his way up the ladder to serve as an assistant pro at Cedars.

Potential PGA golf professionals must complete the program’s lengthy list of core requirements within eight years.

Instruction includes courses in teaching and coaching and facilities management and completion of seminars at the PGA’s Knowledge Center in Florida. Knowledge of the Rules of Golf, the PGA Constitution and the History of the PGA also are qualifying level requirements.
