Haggerty named MVP

Adrienne Haggerty, a 2017 Sequim High graduate, started her 2018 collegiate season off well. The sophomore at Highline Community College didn’t have to travel far to take home Finals MVP from Highline’s own eight-team Fall Classic, held Aug. 31-Sept. 1.

With Haggerty, a 6-2 middle blocker, helping the Thunderbirds in pool play, Highline (9-2 on the season) worked their way through the competition without dropping a single set and topping Clackamas in the tourney final.

Haggerty was also named Week Two NWAACC Offensive Player of the Week for the West Region.

Palmquist gets first ace

Jill Palmquist of Sequim sank her first hole-in-one on Sept. 6, sinking the 76-yard hole No. 8 at The Cedars at Dungeness with a pitching wedge.

Fly fishers to meet

The next meeting of the Sequim Greywolf Fly Fishers is 7-9p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Masonic Lodge, 700 S. Fifth Ave., Sequim. There will be a brief business meeting followed by fishing reports on local lakes and favorite flies that successfully catch fish.

The remainder of the meeting is reserved for individual fly tying. Tie a fly of one’s choice (bring fly-tying equipment and materials) or observe this month’s tying event. There will also be a fly raffle and discussion about recent fishing adventures.
