Storm is seeking players for 8-man squad

The Peninsula Storm is seeking players.

The Storm is the newest addition to the Northwest Eight-Man Football League, a full-contact semi-pro league, which will begin its second season next March.

Current members of the league are the Neah Bay Eagles (2013 champions), Peninsula Storm, Whatcom County Raiders and West Coast (Everett) Gators.

The Eagles traveled to Las Vegas earlier this summer, falling short to a Las Vegas squad in the national eight-man football championship.

Peninsula Storm owner Dick Suess, a retired former college, semipro and professional coach who lives in Gig Harbor, is looking for players from Kitsap County and the Peninsula for the team.

A tryout session will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, on the Sequim High School green fields, next to the football field and the baseball diamond.

There is no cost to try out.

The team is looking at several sites for a home field in Sequim, Port Townsend and Kitsap County.

Future practices will be in November and possibly December. In January the team will hold meetings at an indoor site, and then hold once-a-week practices in February and March leading up to the first game.

Players are required to provide their own game helmets and shoulder pads. The team provides uniforms. The cost to play is $75.
