Storm King Peninsula Soccer Academy’s winter high school girls team started their North Puget Sound League 2015-2016 season off with a bang, clobbering Woodinville’s North Shore Impulse 4-0 on Dec. 6.

Maddie Boe scored a pair of goals, Mia Delguzzi-Flores and Sierra Robinson had one apiece, while goalkeepers Claire Henninger and Maddie Wenzl split the shutout.

The girls’ Peninsula Soccer Academy was first started by Tom Harris of Sequim four years ago in coordination with coach Tim Tucker of Peninsula College. The goal, Tucker says, was to help athletes who wanted to get better and continue playing soccer after their high school season, combining college expertise in coaching along with some of the area’s top female athletes as mentors.

With the encouragement of local high school coaches Brittany Murdach (Sequim) and Scott Moseley (Port Angeles), the academy PSA is now at a 34-person squad with players from Sequim, Port Angeles and Port Townsend.

This year’s squad is coached by Jake Hughes, assistant men’s and women’s Peninsula College coach, along with assistant coaches Heidi Veride, Lisa Radford and goalie coach Nick Johnson.

Peninsula Soccer Academy’s next game is Jan. 2 against the Federal Way Titans in Federal Way.
