Sequim natives George McMurray and John Hanson broke the land speed record for 100cc motorcycles during Bonneville Speed Week last week. According to McMurray, the previous top speed for a 100cc motorcycle on the short course (three miles) was 81.869 miles per hour, set by a Honda in 1975.

Running as the Tri-Mac Speedsters, Hanson and McMurray topped that with a fast time of 85.256 mph.

Bonneville Land Speed Racing is a unique sport featuring hot rods, roadsters, belly tankers, lakesters, motorcycles, streamliners and even diesel trucks. The salt flats are located about 90 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah.
