Track & Field: Sequim boys take 10th at Shelton Invitational

Sequim’s boys earned a strong 10th place finish out of 25 teams at the 64th Shelton Invitational on April 27.

The Wolves took two of top three places in pole vault, with Ari Skov topping 13 feet for second place and fellow senior Cayden Beauregard third at 12-6. Teammate Brody Anderson (10-6) was eighth.

SHS senior Colby Ellefson placed fourth in the 3200-meter race in 9:57, about eight seconds back of Olympia sophomore Caden Durocher.

Sequim’s Sean Southard earned a pair of 11th place finishes, in the 400 meters (53.74) and javelin (128-3).

For Sequim’s girls, senior Kaitlyn Bloomenrader eighth in the 800 (2:26.09), while junior teammate Dawn Hulstedt 10th (2:30.57).

Soph Ahrya Klinger tied for fifth in the pole vault (8-6).

Sequim’s 4×100 relay team (Olive Bridge, Lexi Greenleaf, Birdie Pyeatt, Ava Shinkle) took ninth in 54.91, while the 4×200 team (Ivy Barrett, Bailey Stein, Pyeatt, Hulstedt) was 10th in 1:55.02.

Coming up

The Olympic League meet is set over two days — May 2 and May 4 — at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo. Qualifying athletes and relays advance to the West Central bi-district 2A meet set for May 17-18 at North Mason High School in Belfair.

The top six event finishers from the district meet move on to the class 2A state meet set for May 23-25 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
