Sequim’s Wolves got a clutch win over Olympic to stay in the playoff picture, but two days later saw their postseason chances end in a loss to the league-leading Vikings.

The Wolves (3-7 in league play, 4-8 overall entering this week) will miss the postseason for the first time in more than 20 seasons after splitting games with Olympic and North Kitsap last week.

Sequim opened with a five-set win over the visiting Olympic Trojans on Oct. 15 — the Wolves’s sixth five-set match of the season — in a 213-point, two-hour-long marathon, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 22-25 and 16-14.

Kiana Robideau, who jammed a finger but stayed in the match, served the Wolves out from down 14-13 in the final set for the win. Malory Morey was able to save a tip shot for the winning points.

Robideau had five aces, 13 kills and 29 digs while setter teammate Kalli Wiker was 20-for-20 with three aces, 35 assists and 11 digs.

Kendall Hastings led Sequim with 15 kills and served 11-for-11 with six digs.

McKenna Hastings chipped in five kills and nine digs and Jessica Asselin had four kills and 18 digs.

Two days later in Poulsbo, Sequim wasn’t able to replicate its winning ways in a three-set loss (25-10, 25-13, 25-11) to the defending league champs.

Kendall Hastings had five kills Robideau had four and Kendall Hastings had three. Robideau added a team-high 15 digs.

“They basically overpowered us,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “We were having a hard time getting our hits past their blocking, so we didn’t get many kills.”

Tough foes in Olympia

The Wolves took their proverbial lumps at the Capital City Invitational in Olympic on Oct. 19, falling in all five matches.

“Unfortunately we did not win a single game, but all the teams were a high level of skill and state caliber,” Webber Heilman said.

The 2A Sequim squad dropped matches to 3A Capital (25-13, 25-9) and 4A foes Bothell (25-17, 25-11) and Puyallup (25-11, 25-15) before falling in two playoff bracket matches, to 2A Tumwater (25-13, 25-20) and 3A Squalicum (25-19, 25-18).

Wiker led the team with 28-for-28 serving and 29 assists while Robideau had a team-high 10 kills and 22 digs. Kendall Hastings and Amanda Weller had three aces each; Hastings added seven kills and eight blocks and Weller had nine kills.
