After the Wolves’ track and field teams kicked off their seasons on March 9 at the Logan Relays at Bainbridge Island, a more complete Sequim roster battled for top spots at the Port Angeles Invitational on March 16.

The Wolves came away with 10 first-place varsity finishes, eight of those on the boy’s side.

Junior Darren Salazar swept the 100- and 200-meter races with 11.77 and 23.95 marks, respectively, while senior teammate Murray Bingham took the 800-meter race (1:59.13) and the 1,500 meters (4:26.17).

The two joined Henry Hughes and Theo McMurray to easily win the 4×400 relay in 3:46.27. Hughes, a freshman, added a win in the 400-meter race (55.23).

Senior Fischer Jensen won the 300-meter hurdles (41.92) and took second in the 110 high hurdles (17.09).

In field events, SHS senior Riley Cowan won the javelin by more than 25 feet with a 166-9 mark.

On the girls’ side, Sequim freshman Riley Pyeatt won the 400-meter race in 1:01.31 and placed second in the 100-meter (13.33) and 200-meter (27.53) races behind North Kitsap sophomore Alyssa Cullen. Pyeatt also placed second in the long jump at 14-9.75.

SHS sophomore Abby Schroeder won the high jump with a 5-foot effort.
