Women’s basketball: PC’s Larson scores 34 in win

Missing one of their key players, Peninsula went to the Alaska Pipeline for help.

The Pirates (4-2 in NWAACC play, 9-7 overall) got all they needed in an 84-66 win Wednesday night at home against Shoreline, as Taylor Larson and Karli Brakes, prep hoops teammates in Juneau, Alaska, torched the visiting Dolphins.

Larson had 34 points on 16-of-22 shooting and seven rebounds, and Brakes had 13 assists and six steals.

Peninsula was playing without injured guard Jasmine Yarde.

The Pirates jumped to a 41-27 lead by halftime. Peninsula forced 23 Shoreline turnovers and held the Dolphins to 38 percent shooting.

The Pirates take on Bellevue’s Bulldogs (5-1, 12-7) on the road on Saturday, Jan. 26.
