Sequim, Forks and Port Angeles boys and girls all competed Jan. 18 in the River Ridge Rumble wrestling invitational, part of a contingent of 49 teams competing in the event.
Sequim’s top showing was by James Mason, who made it to the championship match at 157 pounds and finished second. Mason won with a technical fall and a pin to make it to the championship match, where he was pinned by Xariel Soto of River Ridge.
Jaymes Vilona at 144 pounds didn’t place, but won two matches. He was forced to drop two matches for medical forfeit.
Riley Downs at 138 pounds won a pair of matches.
For the Sequim girls, Story Snow finished third in the 115B division. She had to work hard for her finish, going 4-1 on the day, winning her third-place match with a pin over Leah Espinoza of Washington.
The Forks teams had the best showing among Olympic Peninsula squads. The boys came in 19th — 11th among the boys teams — and the girls came in 21st, which was eighth among the girls teams.
The top showing for Forks was by Abraham Montealegre, who won his 113-pound weight division. He went 4-0 on the day and took the championship with a pin over Cyrus Estal of River Ridge, a 2A school.
Dominick Sanchez at 106 pounds finished fourth, going 3-2 on the day.
No other Forks boys placed, but Braden Camacho-Roldan at 126 pounds, Luis Ornelas at 157 and Kenneth Daman at 285 all won two matches.
Lilleana Galeana had the top showing for Forks girls, making it to the championship match and finishing second. Galeana went 3-1 on the day.
Jade Blair came in third at 125 pounds, going 4-1 on the day. Viviana Luna in the 120B division and Riley Tjepkema at 135 pounds both finished fourth.
Port Angeles
The Port Angeles boys finished 29th and the girls were 36th.
Saffron Tschida had the best showing for the Roughriders, winning her 130B weight division with a pair of wins.
Lilly Lancaster finished fourth at 115 pounds, going 3-2 on the day.
Oliver Martinez had a great meet for the Port Angeles boys, going 5-1 on the day and winning his third-place match with a 3-1 decision over Tommy Deebach of Napavine.
John Grubbs at 132 pounds went 4-2 on the day and earned 11 points. Lukas Teague at 144 pounds went 3-2 and also earned 11 points.
