Sequim’s wrestling squad saw some tough competition from class 3A visitors from Kitsap County on Saturday, with the Wolves picking up three wins against Bainbridge’s girls and one varsity win against Central Kitsap’s boys.
Senior Aleah Chen, along with juniors Jordan Hegtvedt and Petra Bernsten, each earned victories against their Spartan counterparts in Sequim’s first match of the double-dual.
Chen pinned Aubrie Ackland in 1:10 at 155 pounds while Bernsten pinned Katherine Irvin 23 seconds into the second period at 170 pounds.
Hegtvedt fought off an 11-2 deficit to pin Victoria Hutt halfway through the third period.
On the boys’ side, Bainbridge won all four varsity matches — three by pin, one by technical fall — but Sequim picked up a pair of junior varsity/exhibition matches.
Those wins included Sam Fitzgerald’s pin of Liam Francis in 3:04 and Owen Tjemsland’s 13-9 win over Owen Williams.
In the second match, Fitzgerald picked up a 43-second pin of Ethan Diego at 152 pounds, while the Cougars picked up three wins by pin, along with a win-by-pin in the lone girls match.
Sequim’s grapplers are slated to finish the season this week with a postseason tourney.
