Zbaraschuk qualifies for state junior tournament

Sequim’s Zoei Zbaraschuk is headed to the Washington State Junior Golf Association state tournament in Bellevue this week after taking second place at the District I tourney at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course July 20-21.

Zbaraschuk shot a first-round 79 and followed it with a 75 on day two. Her two-round 154 was just two shots back of tournament champ Jessica Davis of Bellingham. Rachel Choi of Mukilteo was third (157).

Zbarschuk joins 23 of the best junior female 16- and 17-year-old golfers in Washington at the three-day state tourney hosted by Glendale Golf & Country Club and Overlake Golf & Country Club in Bellevue, July 29-31.

Zbaraschuk is a three-time high school state tourney qualifier who looks to make it four come next spring. She and other finalists tee off at 7:30 a.m. on July 29 at Glendale, and at

7:30 a.m. on July 30 at Overlake.

Sequim’s Ryan O’Mera battled for a state spot on the boys’ 14-15 division but he fell short, shooting a two-day 167 (83-84), four shots off from qualifying and three shots off alternate status.
