Readings mark anniversary

Celebrate the fifth anniversary of Fourth Friday Readings at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in the media room of The Lodge, 660 Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim. The event will feature Ruth Marcus and a multimedia presentation, “Haiku &Mandala: The Wedding of Ancient Art,” followed by 5-minute open mic readings. Bring poems, short-stories or memoir/novel snippets and rehearse in advance. Guidelines are available at heidi@olypen.com.

Storyteller at PA library

Storyteller Norm Brecke will present “Spaghetti Squids and Zombie Arms” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the monthly gathering of the Story People of Clallam County at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St. Stories at the swap are aimed at adult listeners, but are suitable for teens and pre-teens. Brecke will perform for about an hour. After a short break, the Story People host an open mic until 9 p.m. for all wishing to tell a brief story without reading or notes.

Go with the flow

Ruth Marcus hosts Spontaneous Writing Monday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave, for writers who want to get their creative juices flowing. Writers are welcome regardless of experience. Bring paper and pen but no electronic devices, please. The group meets to write every third Monday of the month. Marcus stressed that this is not a critique group.

Book discussion set at library

“If the Oceans Were Ink: An Unlikely Friendship and a Journey to the Heart of the Qur’an” by Carla Power will be discussed at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Sequim Library. Copies of “If the Oceans Were Ink” are available at the library in various formats including in regular print and downloadable e-book; they can be requested online by visiting the library catalog at www.nols.org.

PEO fundraiser set for April 1

Philanthropic Educational Organization Chapter FY’s annual fundraiser is slated for April 1 in conjunction with Olympic Theatre Arts’ production of “Over the River and Through the Woods.” A $25 ticket pays for lunch, the play, a chance for door prizes and more. Fiddling fundraiser for Fallons

A fiddling concert supporting a local family is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at the Sequim High School auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave. The event is a fundraiser for the Fallon family of Sequim; Lora Fallon was diagnosed with stage 4 appendix cancer.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A $5 raffle buys tickets for a chance to win one of several items including meals, kayak rentals, shopping packages and more.

Jazz night set at OTA

Local jazz singer, Sarah Shea will sings songs from the “Great American Song Book” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in the Gathering Hall of Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave. Accompanying her will be Al Harris on piano, Craig Buhler on the saxophone and clarinet, Ted Enderle on bass, and Tom Svornich on drums. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. Cash only please. A full bar and snacks are available through OTA. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Barn dance supports school

The Beat the Blues barn dance is set for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday, Feb. 25, at The Big Barn Farm, 702 Kitchen-Dick Road. The event features family themed fun, followed by live music from Joy in Mudville. Tickets are $5 for 2-5 p.m., $20 for 5 p.m.-close and are available at the door. Youths 13 and younger are free. Parking and shuttle are at Kingsway Foursquare Church. All proceeds benefit Five Acre School scholarship and equipment funds.

Sax player hosts clinic

Jazz saxophonist and flutist Mark Lewis hosts a free clinic/demonstration on jazz improvisation from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Musicians performing with Lewis during the clinic are drawn from the Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble, directed by David P. Jones. The community is welcome to attend this free event. Peninsula College will present Lewis two nights later, on Feb. 25, in a full concert backed by the David Jones Trio.

Grange hosts PT group

The Port Townsend band Soul Posse performs for the community’s dancing and listening pleasure from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road. Cost is $10 per person; food will be provided.

Local sculptor at PAFAC

The Port Angeles Fine Art Center opens an exhibition featuring local copper sculptor Clark Mundy. The show is entitled “Between Worlds” and will run from March 11-May 14. An opening reception is from 5-8 p.m. on March 11. The exhibit will feature Mundy’s highly regarded marine-life series, as well as masks and other assorted ephemera borne of the artist’s passion for the Elwha River.
