Peninsula College to screen film about food waste

Peninsula College’s Magic of Cinema Film Series and the Clallam Country Waste Prevention Program will screen the documentary “Wasted! The Story of Food Waste” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, in the Maier Performance Hall, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Directed by Anna Chai and Nari Kye, the film features Anthony Bourdain, a world-famous chef, author and raconteur, and aims to change the way people buy, cook, recycle and eat food.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion of local experts who are working on programs targeting food waste and recovery and will highlight local actions that can be taken to feed people and not the landfill.

The film is free and open to the public. The run time is 90 minutes plus the panel discussion.

Experts from the community participating in the panel discussion following the film will be Meggan Uecker, Clallam County Solid Waste Coordinator; Sharah Truett, Food Recovery Coordinator, Washington State University Extension; Megan Davis, Waste Reduction Coordinator, WSU-Extension; Jessica Pankey, Environmental Health Specialist, Clallam County Environmental Health; Andra Smith, Executive Director, Sequim Food Bank; and Jessica Hernandez, Executive Director, Port Angeles Food Bank.

Earlier on the May 31, Uecker presents a lecture titled “America’s Food Hangover” at a Studium Generale presentation set for 12:35 p.m. in college’s Little Theater.
