Sequim City Band invites community to ‘Go West!’

The Sequim City Band presents “Go West!”, its final 2018 outdoor Concert on the Lawn at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at The James Center for the Performing Arts, 350 N. Blake Ave.

Just in time for the 150th anniversaries of the founding of the Wyoming Territory and the first “cow town of the west” (Abilene, Kan.), the band — under the direction of conductor Tyler Benedict — plays music invoking the West. A medley of Richard Rodgers tunes includes music from “Oklahoma,” and no celebration of the West would be complete without a nod to some quintessential western movies, “The Magnificent Seven” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”

With views of the Olympic Mountains, the most westerly U.S. mountain range, attendees can enjoy the free concert on the lawn at the James Center on the north end of Carrie Blake Community Park.

The concert’s guest announcer is Vicki Helwick.

The Sequim City Band’s first concert of the 2018-19 indoor series is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Sequim High School auditorium, 533 N. Sequim Ave. Other indoor concerts include Sunday, Dec. 16, and Sunday, March 10; both are at 3 p.m. in the Sequim High School auditorium.
