A bit of magic comes to Sequim in August, as the Snappy Players Troupe brings “A Midsummer Forest” to the Olympic Theatre Arts stage for two shows this week.

The troupe, an ensemble that integrates the talents of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities with other community members, brings a live, semi-improvisational show that’s based roughly off of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The production is a comedy that has a bit of romance, some impish interventions and touches of magic, producers say.

Snappy Players actors have been developing their stories and their characters for a year in order to bring this production to fruition.

For those who have attended previous Snappy Players productions, production organizers say, many of the actors will be familiar and their progression in acting ability will be evident. But for those who have never seen a Snappy Players performance, the “semi-improvisational style and capabilities of the actors will amaze.

“Many of the actors have limitations with verbal expression and literacy, yet they deliver a tremendous performance that truly showcases how they are more than their disability,” production organizers say.

The two performances on OTA’s main stage are set for 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, and both serve as fundraisers for Clallam Mosaic, a small local nonprofit with the mission “to enrich, encourage and empower people with developmental disabilities.”

The suggested donation amount is $20 and can be contributed at the door. All net proceeds from the event will directly support educational, recreational and leisure classes/programs for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

In addition, there will be a bake sale before the show and during the intermission with proceeds going to Olympic Theatre Arts, a partner nonprofit which donates the use of its space to Clallam Mosaic for productions each year.

Clallam Mosaic theatrical leads Anna Andersen and Bonne Smith lead the show.

Actors featured in the production include Tia Bates, Carr Brackett, Ruthie Brandt, Bonny Cates, Fred Cnockaert, Charmaine Davis, David William Dow, Emma Easton, Ricky Ewing, Kim Holbrook, Dezerea Hunter, Megan Jung, Jess McNeil, Joy Morrill, Marjorie Mougel, Riley O’Neil, Cassie Puff, Andrea Reise, Harvey Reise, Michael Rief, Ursula Schletter, Doug Severe and Alicia Stuber.
