Writers’ conference grows in second year

Registration is now open for the Olympic Peninsula Christian Writers’ Conference, where 16 experienced writers will share their craft on Nov. 3.

All writers and aspiring writers are welcome to attend the event, at Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane, Sequim.

Attendees will have 12 sessions to choose from, in addition to keynote speaker Diana Savage’s presentation during the lunch.

A professional editor, author, and speaker, Savage also directed the Northwest Christian Writers Renewal conference in Seattle for three years.

The doors open at 8:30 a.m. for a light breakfast. Sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. and finish at 4 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are included in the conference price of $60 for those who register by Oct. 15.

After that date, the late registration fee is $80.

“The full day conference is a big expansion,” conference chair Sandy Frykholm said. “Last year we had only three speakers and a panel discussion.”

Frykholm said last year’s enthusiastic reception encouraged the conference organizers to think bigger.

This year’s speakers represent a wide range of writing experience. Michael Bunnell operates a small publishing company, the culmination of a long career as a writer. Jan Tanaka taught writing for years before she began writing fiction. A creativity coach, a professional musician, and former elected official will all share what they’ve learned as writers.

Among the dozen topics to be covered are plotting a novel, revision and self-editing, business aspects of being a write, and staying motivated.

Descriptions of the class sessions and bios of the speakers are available at the conference website, www.opcwc.com.

Online registration is open, and those who prefer it can print out a registration form and mail it in, or go to the church office to register.
