Hopsital Guild thrift shop open Saturday

The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s thrift shop, 204 W. Bell St., Sequim, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 15. All white-tagged items will be marked at half-price. The shop always is looking for new volunteers and consigners. Call 683-7044 for more information. All profits from the thrift shop are returned to the medical community of Sequim.

Learn to teach, be taught

Sequim Community MakerSpace hosts its next meeting from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, July 13, at the Sequim Museum &Arts’ Administration Center, 544 N. Sequim Ave. The group is designed as “an educational hub where citizens of all ages can volunteer their time, talents and treasures to teach and mentor others, enrich the community and encourage America’s entrepreneurial spirit.”

Fly-tying group meets

The next meeting of the Sequim Greywolf Fly Fishers will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road. There will be a brief business meeting followed by fishing reports on local lakes and favorite flies that successfully catch fish. The remainder of meeting is reserved for individual fly-tying. You may observe or tie a fly of your choice (bring your fly-tying equipment and materials). There also will be a fly raffle and discussion about a casting outing.

Chapman named to building code council

Rep. Mike Chapman, D-Port Angeles, recently was appointed to the State Building Code Council as the House Democrat’s representative.

The State Building Code Council was created to advise legislators about building code issues and to develop the building codes used in Washington. These codes, legislators say, help ensure state buildings and facilities are built safe and healthy for building occupants, accessible to persons with disabilities and the elderly, and more energy efficient.

“There is much work to accomplish, especially regarding CLT (cross-laminated timber) building codes,” Chapman said.

Have coffee with mayor

The City of Sequim Coffee with the Mayor program continues in July. Sequim residents can meet informally with Mayor Dennis Smith at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Bell Creek Bar and Grill, 707 E. Washington St. Communications and Marketing Director Barbara Hanna will join the mayor for the meeting. Smith will be at the Bell Creek Bar and Grill each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern, or make a comment about the City or the community. ‘Dream Machines’ car show on tap in PA

Peninsula Dream Machines will be holding its Annual Charity Car Show from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the old Fairview School parking lot across the street from Fairview Grange, 161 Lake Farm Road, Port Angeles.

Along with the car show there will be music, food, prize drawings and trophies. Entry fee is $20 per car; the first 100 entrants receive a goody bag with items and a dash plaque. There is no cost for spectators. For more information, call 461-9008.

New-in-town group meets July 19

If you are new to Sequim or considering relocating to Sequim, the “New in Town Conversation” gathering has been designed for you. Meet other newcomers, learn more about the history of Sequim, volunteering opportunities and about how to handle the stresses and strains of relocation. The events are from 2:30-4:30 p.m. each third Wednesday every other month at First Federal, 333 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim. RSVP to Catherine Mich at 582-1081 or cjmich@gmail.com.

The next is July 19 with guest speaker Colleen Robinson, executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County.

‘Oldtimers’ cruise-in comes to Port Angeles

The Oldtimers Northwest Cruise In is set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 15, on the 100 block of East Front Street in downtown Port Angeles. On display at this free event will be classic cars and hot rods, along with classic rock of Chantilly Lace (noon-4 p.m., sponsored by Windermere Real Estate.) Class at library set on anxiety reduction

Doug Blessington, MS, LMHCA, a licensed mental health counselor associate, is offering “5 Strategies to Reduce Anxiety” from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. In this interactive event, attendees will learn five tools to reduce anxiety based on the latest research in neurobiology, share wisdom about what works and connect with each other. Soroptimists offer education scholarships

Soroptimist International of Sequim is accepting applications for four, $2,000 Continuing Education Scholarships until Aug. 15. Applicants must be female graduates of Sequim High School or have a legal address within the Sequim School District and need to have completed one year of post-secondary education and will be continuing their education in the fall of 2017.

Celebration of Life

There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Gardiner Community Center in honor of Khichi (Georgeanna) Broders on July 27 (her birthday) from 2-4 p.m. Bring tea sandwiches or sweets to share and lots of stories. She died on May 10, 2017, from heart failure.

Sequim Guild to have 3-day garage sale

The Sequim Guild will have a garage and plant sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. July 21-23 during Sequim Lavender Weekend at 81 Timothy Lane, Sequim.

It will feature a full 2-bedroom condo furniture suite, furniture, lamps, tableware, books, clothes and miscellaneous items.

Prices are by donation.

All proceeds go to uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Last year, over 1.7 million in uncompensated care was given to some 985 children visits in Clallam County alone.

Port Angeles’ Class of 1960 to celebrate

The Port Angeles High School Class of 1960 is hosting a 75th birthday party for all classmates of the graduating class of 1960 from 6-10 p.m. Friday, July 28, at the Port Angeles Yacht Club, 1305 Marine Drive, Port Angeles.

On Saturday, July 29, the classmates will gather from 2-10 p.m. at Neske’s Nook. Call Cindy Bruch Schlaffman at 460-1375 for directions and more information.

The majority of the classmates are celebrating their 75th birthdays this year.

Senior menu set

Sequim Senior Nutrition Site menus are served at 4:30 p.m. at the Shipley Center, 921 E. Hammond St., on Tuesdays-Fridays. Suggested donation is $5 (60 and over), $8 guest and a 24-hour advance reservation is needed.
