Gymnastics: Trio of Wolves advance to state finals

Three Sequim gymnasts are headed to state after earning qualifying marks at the West Central District meet at Kent-Meridian High School in Kent on Feb. 15.

Sophomore Emma Sharp will compete in all four events — beam, bars, floor and vault — at state after placing in the top eight in all-around scoring at districts.

Teammate Lesea Pfeffer, a junior, will compete in the beam after placing third in the event (8.95 points) as well as the vault (7.8) and floor exercise (7.6) at districts.

Sequim teammate Danica Pierson, a freshman, will compete in the bars discipline after scoring 5.85 points at districts

Sharp placed eighth in all-around scoring, earning fourth place on vault (8.2 points) and seventh on the beam (8.55). She also scored 7.75 on the floor exercise and 6.1 on bars.

A number of the Sequim gymnasts’ teammates from the joint prep team from Port Angeles advanced to the state meet as well, including: freshmen Anne Edwards (bars, floor, vault) and Mei Ying Harper-Smith (bars, beam, vault), junior Aiesha La Tourette (floor, vault), and senior Julienne Jacobs (bars, floor).

White River and Capital took first and second place in team scoring and advance their squads to the state finals. Port Angeles placed fifth.

The state 2A/3A meet is scheduled for Feb. 21-22 at Sammamish High School in Bellevue.
