Public or private agencies that provide emergency food and shelter, and are willing and able to comply with federal documentation requirements, are encouraged to apply for a portion of emergency food and shelter funds awarded to Clallam County from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

The award to Clallam County for 2010 will be based on unemployment statistics, as compared to other funded jurisdictions. United Way of Clallam County will administer the program again for 2010. Applications must be submitted to United Way of Clallam County by 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29. The local board will meet to consider requests in February and funding will begin in April.

Applications are available by contacting United Way of Clallam County at info@unitedwayclallam.org or by calling 457-3011 or mailing to P.O. Box 937, Port Angeles, WA 98362.

The program was created in 1983 to supplement the work of local social service organizations within the United States, both private and governmental, to help people in need of emergency assistance. This collaborative effort between the private and public sectors has provided more than $3.4 billion nationally in federal funds during its 27-year history.
