Several vehicle prowls were reported in Sequim during the past two weeks, said Sequim Police Officer
Maris Turner.
They were reported in areas of the city at all hours, she said.
The losses haven’t been substantial, but the number is significant for Sequim, especially in such a short time.
"The majority of vehicle prowls are easily preventable by following these simple steps," she said.
_ Secure your vehicle, including rolling up all windows and locking all doors, trunks, hatches, bedmounted tool boxes and canopies.
_ Don’t leave items of value in your vehicle.
_ Remove credit cards, checkbooks, bank or ATM cards or statements.
_ Remove mail, wallets or purses, keys or visible garage door openers.
_ Remove vehicle title, jewelry, electronic devices,
_ Remove cell phones, MP3 players, CD players, CDs and day planners.
Turner also said if you witness a vehicle prowl in progress, call 9-1-1 but don’t confront the prowler.
If possible, get a description of the prowler, such as approximate height, weight, build, clothing, direction of travel, vehicle description and license number.
