Elwha walks to begin on former Lake Aldwell

Beginning Saturday, Aug. 3, Olympic National Park rangers lead guided interpretive walks along the Elwha River where Lake Aldwell once existed.

This free program will be offered starting at 1 p.m. each Saturday through Sept. 7. Guided portions of the walks last about one hour. Rangers guide visitors through the landscape being created by the river following the removal of the Elwha Dam. The walks are free and begin at the former boat launch located at the end of Lake Aldwell Road, just north off U.S. Highway 101 and just west of the Elwha River bridge.

Visitors should wear sturdy walking shoes or boots and be prepared for windy conditions with no shade.
