Published 11:25 am Thursday, March 20, 2014
Experienced organic gardener Pam Larsen presents strategies for defending plants from pests and disease while preserving the environment at noon Thursday, May 9, in the county commissioners meeting room of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles; and again at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.
Larsen’s “Plant Communication and Self-defense” explains how organic compounds in plants, called secondary metabolites, protect the plants by sending out signals that ward off insects or bacteria. She discusses how organic growing helps promote this natural plant defense system.
Larsen’s presentation is part of the Clallam County WSU Master Gardeners Green Thumb Gardening Tips brown-bag series.
Attendees may bring lunch.
Both presentations are free; call 417-2279 for more information.
