Youths invited to volunteer at library

The Sequim Library again offers youths in grades 6-12 the opportunity to volunteer as part of the summer reading program. Information sessions about volunteer opportunities are at 3:30 p.m., today, Wednesday, June 5, and at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13. Teens only need to attend one of the sessions.

Interested teens should complete an application form, available at the library or at www.nols.org (on the “Youth,” “young adults” pull-down menu).

Youth volunteers earn service credit, meet new people, get a behind-the-scenes look at library work, begin to build resumé experience and have snacks.

Each teen volunteer commits to at least four events, each consisting of two hours for a total of eight volunteer hours over the course of five weeks.

All volunteer activities are supervised and teens are taught skills for working with the public, providing good customer service and teamwork.

Trainings are facilitated by Youth Services Librarian Antonia Krupicka-Smith.
