This July, the North Olympic Library System offers several Lego© Mindstorms© Robotics Camps as part of its annual summer reading program for young adults ages 12-18. The first camp will take place at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at the Forks Library, followed by sessions at 11 a.m. on July 7, 14 and 21 at the Sequim Middle School cafeteria, 301 W. Hendrickson Road. Additional camp dates are scheduled for 3 p.m. on July 7, 14 and 21 at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

During Lego© Mindstorms© Robotics challenges, young adults ages 12-18 work in pairs to program, conduct experiments and modify a rover-style robot that can solve puzzles and complete challenges. Teams design, program, test and improve their rovers to create efficient programs. Sequim Middle School teacher Caleb Gentry teaches the basics of program design.

Limited space is available and pre-registration is recommended. Lego© Mindstorms© use is made possible by the Washington State Library.

The 2016 Summer Reading Program, taking place June 20-Aug. 20, offers an array of events and incentive-based reading programs to encourage children to read during their summer vacations. As part of the reading incentive program, youths to age 18 receive a book when they sign up for the program. For every 14 hours children and teens (ages 3-18) read, they are entered into a grand prize drawing. Adults and youths of all ages who read 100 hours or more receive a special T-shirt commemorating their reading success.

To register for this program or to learn more about the 2016 Summer Reading Program, visit www.nols.org, send an email to youth@nols.org or call the Sequim Library at 683-1161.
