As the $9 million-plus Carlsborg sewer system approaches “substantial completion” on April 1, that deadline likely will come sooner for a now-bumpy Carlsborg Road.

Meggan Uecker, solid waste coordinator for Clallam County, said starting March 23, grinding and paving begins between Runnion Road and Idea Place.

Work continues the next week from Runnion Road to U.S. Highway 101, depending on weather conditions.

Uecker said travelers can expect delays during daytime paving and some small delays in the coming months as homes and businesses connect to the service.

However, most of the connection work will occur off the road and on private residences, she said.

County officials previously said paved roads and the sewer system being “substantially complete” are unrelated and it means water can be pumped through the system from Carlsborg to the Sequim Reclamation Facility through about five miles of piping.

“It does not mean that hookups are completed,” Uecker said.

Nighttime construction continues tentatively through the end of the week, March 24, from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. as crews pull pipe through U.S. Highway 101 between Carlsborg Road and Hooker Road.

Filing deadline

The first deadline to connect to the sewer system at a lower rate is coming up as well.

Applying by March 31 to connect costs $500, $1,500 through April 2019, and $8,000 afterwards. Uecker said 65 accounts have signed up and she’s anticipating about 15 more before the end of the month.
