Like shoppers tracking down after-Thanksgiving sales, Helen Haller Elementary students ran hard for laps at their recent Turkey Trot fundraiser.

Students in grades K-5 ran, jogged and/or walked for 30 minutes on Nov. 21 seeking donations from family and friends to support the school’s “Six Books for Summer” program where each student gets to choose and keep six books before school is out.

Organizers also sought funds to purchase a rock-climbing wall.

As of Monday evening, students raised nearly $9,000 of their $23,600 goal. Donations were accepted through Nov. 27. Various prizes are set to be awarded to students for raising the most in donations.
