Two students at Helen Haller Elementary ran their heart out before Thanksgiving and received a nice present for Christmas.

First-grader Marcus Sheldon and fifth-grader Alex Kruckeberg earned rides in a fire truck and limousine for raising the most for the Nov. 21 Turkey Trot. The school’s Parent Teacher Organization, PTO, and school staff led students in grades K-5 to run, jog and/or walk for 30 minutes after seeking donations from family and friends to support the school’s “Six Books for Summer” program and a rock-climbing wall. Organizers said they raised a little more than $9,334 towards the effort.

Sheldon rode home on Dec. 21 in a fire truck via Clallam County Fire District 3, and Kruckeberg in a limo via 7 Cedars Casino. They also received hot chocolates and sweets.

Will Ebling, first grade, also received a four-pack of tickets to the Olympic Game Farm, and Avery Morris, a fourth grader, received a four-pack of tickets to Deer Park Cinemas for earning the second most in their age brackets.

Aiden Akers, a second-grader, Mason Rapelje, a fourth-grader, and Nolan Bacchus, a third-grader, ran the most laps for their age brackets, too, and received a YMCA shirt and a Turkey Trot medallion.

The top lap runner for each grade received school spirit wear too.
